One Day Introduction to Blacksmithing
Our one day course based at Lake Waitawa (Forest Lakes, 3 km north of Otaki) will provide you with an (entry level) taste of the craft.

09.00am Arrive, settle in, outline of course over a plunger coffee.
09.30am Explore the tools, large and small. – Hammers, gas forge, anvil scrolling jigs.
Learn how to; hammer, draw to a point, twist, bend, cut off & finish steel.
Commence personal project. Select from one of the options below.
Select any of the following 5 options:
a) A wall hook, toasting fork, and a fire poker. d) A utility knife upcycled from an old tool.
b) A dinner gong with striker and wall bracket. e) A fire poker set and stand
c) A camp fire tripod.
12 noon Lunch ( BYO)
12.40’ish Continue on the forge for the afternoon..
04 - 4.4.30 pm Take your product home.
We provide: Coffee tea, leather gloves, safety glasses and apron.
A Canadian canoe is available if you would like to go for a paddle on our sheltered lake over the lunch break.
A BBQ is available, and toastie pie machine available for DIY lunches.
You bring: Lunch, enclosed leather shoes & long trousers. You may prefer your own safety glasses.
No polar fleece or flammable clothing please!
Accommodation Cabin, or tent sites available if you want to make a weekend of it!
Your Tutor: Is not a master blacksmith. Warren is unapolageticly only an enthusiast! His expertese over
the last 40 years is in working with people. Often introducing them to new experiences
that will stretch, fulfill, and enrich them.
